Lindy x WCS Crossover Dance

August 2nd

Greenville, SC

Overview

TLDR; West Coast and Lindy Hop workshop 2pm-5pm, Dance Saturday night 7-11pm, late night 11-2am.

This month will be slightly different and we will be dancing both Lindy Hop and West Coast Swing. WCS is a more modern dance that developed out of Lindy Hop. While both dances bare some similarities they also have key differences, and we believe that both scenes could benefit and get inspired by having more exposure to each other! The music will alternate between music for Lindy and WCS.

Come dance with us Saturday! We dance swing, which is an umbrella term for a number of swing dances that we dance to swing music. You don't need to bring a partner since it's a social dance and we all dance with each other! Never danced before? No problem! There are beginner classes before each dance to help you feel more comfortable getting out onto the dance floor.

Instructor Bios

Geoff Newell

Geoff is a vernacular jazz and social dancer with 15 years of experience teaching, DJing, organizing, emceeing, and otherwise giving what he’s got wherever he fits into the social dance community. He has so much love for the social dance world, the people who build it, the folks who find it, and the amazing art it allows those people to create. He puts his energy into learning more about cultural social dances, their roots, and how they balance tradition and innovation.

On the competition floor, Geoff pursues excellence in both dance styles: he is one half of the 2023 NASDE Rising Star Tour champions, has multiple 1st place victories in random partner draw competitions, and choreographed the winning team routine at School of Hard Knox 2023.

As a teacher, Geoff focuses on building a relationship with the music and culture that gave birth to each style of dance. He has two big rules: dancing should always be fun, and it should always be comfortable. He firmly believes that anyone with a heartbeat can find a home on the dancefloor. After all, even the best dancers still move one step at a time.
